Public pseuds (especially if your dw handle isn't the one we know you by on lj/twitter): frankles, previously wheeflop but I’ve changed them all now
Current favourite fandom: everything Yang Se-jong but let’s say My Country: The New Age
Current OTP (or OT3 etc): Hwi/Seon-ho
Are you having a Renaissance (tm) this year (or every year!): I think that requires engaging with fandom in some way, rather than having nu_breed send me all my fannish content pre-filtered lol
How does better (arguably) queer rep in canon affect your relationship with fandom? Fic still necessary? Just fun now? Still better thought out than lazy shoehorning? Worse than ever? Too many puriteens? Sound off here:
Queer rep is great and important but it’s defined very narrowly these days. If the only valid queer rep states their queerness explicitly and kisses their queer partner on screen, where does that leave the whole universe of everything else we have to work with? If your show can’t show the kiss because of the country it comes from, is that less valid? It might be wildly progressive for its context but get completely dismissed or called queerbaiting or a bromance (yells about MCTNA) because no one stands up and declares they’re gay and in love.
Side note, queerbaiting is not what people think it is! It is a marketing situation where they hint at (or straight up say there is) queerness to bring in the audience then don’t deliver. It isn’t “my OTP have wild chemistry but didn’t get together”, that’s a difference between the creative team and the audience - queerbaiting is the actual bait-and-switch/lie told to bolster the audience. It’s actually really rare! It happens but nowhere near as much as the wider internet thinks it does.
Anyway I think my answer to the question is that I don’t engage with wider fandom because I like my fandom experience to come from people I already know and trust.
My Hell Pizza order for Saturday night is (please bold or ALL CAPS any allergies/intolerances):
Double Mayhem on thin stretched base
It costs this much, which I will add to my subs when I pay those: $44
More crudites, more chips, or more biscuits? I will eat all of them
Hummus or sour cream dips? All dips are good dips
Coke or juice? Coke
I said coke and my preferred version is: no sugar or zero
Coffee or tea? None
Whole fat, half, or trim milk? None
SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY! (DM me the g/t bank account): yes I think we usually give you cash but we do have money in an nz account this year so let’s send it the polite way
