Sharing the pain

Because I am evil, I am hiding at the back of the most boring seminar on earth, posting this entry. Lj by stealth, most exciting. And because I am evil, I thought I'd solace myself by sharing my pain with you. Because I'm not that evil, though, I'll give you the four minute version instead of the four day version. No, seriously.

Fun Times at an ICT Conference (aka, Where Our Tax-Payer Dollars Go)

Keynote One: Not all online gamers are malcontents who live in their parents' basements. These games teach complex strategies and encourage leadership and cooperative skills.

Me: Interesting. Tell me more.

2000 people: Nerds. Geeks. Yawn. Who hired this woman?

Seminar One: Educative Applications of Podcasting

Me: Huh. That is cool. I wish I had an iMac.

150 people: What's podcasting? People listen to this stuff? Don't they have better things to do?

Keynote Two: The Internet - Renaissance 2.0

Me: Hey! This guy's awesome! That is so true!

2000 people: Novell's sponsoring the reception tonight. Let's leave early.

Seminar Two: Blogging

Me: Yawn. Dear God, if I sit here for 90 minutes will you do more than run through the different websites?

150 people: People do this for fun? Why? Won't someone from Arkansas kill me?

Presenter: Fah, fah, fah, I'm an early adopter, I've been here since Diaryland, but since then I've x, y, z.

Me: [Fuck this shit] Yeah, well I'm still on lj. I'm loyal like that.

Presenter: [taken aback] You know what I'm talking about? Do you use your blog in teaching?

Me: [dies laughing] Well I've learnt a lot about anal sex and blowjobs and the such like. And I like to think I've mentored a few people into the trade.

[Okay, I didn't really say that, but I wanted to.]

Plus all the other seminars that were so, so incredibly boring that I slept through them. But they certainly fed us a lot. Breakfast, morning and afternoon tea, lunch and dinner, all fully catered. Plus gallons of alcohol and canapes. I'm fairly sure that's what most people come for. It surely isn't to embrace new ideas.
