Venues, addresses, maps
The main venue itself:
Park Bowling Club Kilbirnie
598-600 Evans Bay Parade
The Evans Bay Parade address is its official one, and those driving (depending where you're coming from) may prefer to come down that way. For myself I've always thought it was on Kilbirnie Crescent, and certainly that's where the bus will drop public transport takers. I can't get a number, obviously, but it's between the Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre (no 63) and the Ruth Gottlieb Library (no 101).
There's a fair amount of parking there at the park for drivers.
Walk in through the main front doors, but then instead of walking through into the bar, which will presumably be full of old folks in their bowling gear, hang left and go upstairs. Ideally there will be some sort of sign, *g*.
Those at the the 747 Motel just need to cross the road (you're at 80 Kilbirnie Crescent) and it should be somewhere vaguely in front of you.
From Courtenay Place, the bus you want is the Number 2 (Miramar). Those of you coming from Wilton will get the Number 14 (Kilbirnie) but I'm sure you know that. In either case you want to get out at the Park bus stop which serves the Aquatic Centre, the Library etc.
Those of you at X-Base need to hop skip and jump across from Cambridge Terrace (which is the helpfully unnamed yellow street running parallel to Kent Terrace in this picture).

Those of you at the Museum (unless you're cabbing it) just need to whip down thus:

Restaurants:
X-Base types who are joining us on Friday night, head down to Cuba Mall thusly. The Oaks is first (71-81, pretty much right opposite the Bucket Fountain) and upstairs -- look out for a grotty staircase and a sign. Olive (170) requires you to venture through the mall and on up to Cuba St proper.

Saturday and Sunday we should all be heading down together, but for safety's sake:
Siam Thai 64 Kilbirnie Crescent
Tandoori Heritage 23 Onepu Road
I'm assuming everyone will come Saturday, how many should I try to book for Sunday???

Yup, that's the plan. And it'll have to be a bus to the station, as lo! I am poor this year. ::sobs a bit::

I just flooded my downstairs neighbour with my plumbing of epic fail...

Though, if anyone is needing a lift to the airport Sunday evening, I'm happy to oblige.

- but at some point I need to check into my second hotel Sunday and drop off my bag. I assume we have to check out of the X-Base in the morning so I better pack light if I'm dragging my stuff all over town with me all day!

I'm doing the tourist thing Monday and flying back Tues. The grabaseats were cheap enough to give me a little holiday money. *g*
I'm not stressed about it. It was just a timely reminder that I should figure out what I'm packing!

See you at the weekend!

Plumbing fail does not sound good, eeek.

And yeah, as Johnny Cash would say, "Cry, cry, cry". My sad face let me show you it: plumbers/builders were meant to come last week, they delayed till this week, I said GTFO my friends are here, switched to next week --> infinite crisis today.

there is one question in the email I sent you this morning that you might especially want to answer, in that case (hint: it's the one starting hypothetically speaking...)

Hypothetically speaking, I'm a champagne drinker. But it hardly seems appropriate. Though I guess I could toast the whole fecking nightmare. Why are tradesmen so useless? Is it to punish professionals for feeling superior?

toasting...drowning your sorrows...whichever seems appropriate...

Advice from an old hand: sit back and watch the carnage for a little while, then when you see how ridiculous everyone else is you will start to feel comfortable. Then join in. Just remember, we were all shy once. (I was terrified in 2005... *g*)

Gravitate immediately to the noisiest group in the place. It will be full of loudly squeeing women, and the odd hissed sshh at an inappropriate comment. One or more of us will be wearing a fannish shirt, no doubt, also.

My flight leaves at 7 on Sunday (or thereabouts... probably should double-check that), so I'm a no-go for dinner.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! \o/

But then I forgot my woes and got excited again. Mr Downstairs already hates me (I *think* because I pick up Australians on the midnight flight, and then we sit up talking *horror* how dare we???) so now he just hates me more. Bah humbug. And there's an Aussie arriving tomorrow. Heh.

I have signed in to return your email about ten times, and life has thwarted me each time...

I shall see you somewhere around 12:30/1am-ish, I guess? Hopefully it won't take too long for luggage/immigration/customs etc.
why won't the Qantas site let me print my boarding pass? DON'T TIME OUT!
