1) The Fannish Basics

Who are you and where can we find you (preferred name/user names across your preferred platforms/where you’re most active):

Kylie, aworldinside on AO3/LJ/DW, barrajagrn on my locked fannish Twitter/Tumblr. Most active on Twitter and Tumblr by far (uh the last time I updated my LJ was Oct 2013 *ducks*).

Are you a reader, a writer, an artist, a vidder, a lurker, all of the above, or something else entirely:

Reader, write for Yuletide every year and occasionally at other times. Have vidded in the past, want to again when I motivate myself. Former AO3 testing volunteer and uh, I should really get back into helping out again.

Wax lyrical about your current fandoms and OTPs:

Hockey RPF. Oh, hockey. Still the fandom of my heart. LA Kings, Carts/Richie, but I have a fondness for some other teams and players.

The other fandom I'm reading in a bit is the Musketeers. Aramis/Porthos forever and ever, but uh I can be convinced by an OT3 or OT4 solution.

Also football is a thing that is sort of happening. There are tabs with fic open and I'm following along to the sport even more closely this year following the World Cup.

The other thing I'm really enjoying is Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries, but it's not really slashy.

Reminisce with one perfect crystal emo tear for the ship that sank or the fandom that finally faded away:

I don't actually think I've lost one this year. I'm still eh on Suits for the most part, but I was eh last year too but I'm still watching and trying to see if there really is a secret source of good Harvey/Donna fic somewhere.

Any squicks or kinks (be clear which is which, *g*):

kinks: competence, PINING, sleeping fic, banter, wake up married.
squicks: heavy BDSM, humiliation, incest, dub or non-con.

Fannish highlight of your year:

That thing where my hockey team won the Stanley Cup probably counts, yeah? Well, that. I also got to see them live for two games in LA in March and I saw my favourite player score a goal. That was pretty cool.

Favourite new show/movie/comic/source text since last year:

Hmm. I did really enjoy Captain America: Winter Solider. Favourite new TV shows are Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries, Orphan Black and The Musketeers is a lot of fun, if pretty ridiculous.

Also John Oliver's Last Week Tonight is a great show. Not so much fannishly (although I have read him in fic before so ... I guess sort of?) but definitely worth watching if you liked things like The Daily Show and The Colbert Report.

Favourite AO3/tumblr/twitter tag:

I have a Tumblr tag that is "Damn Jeff Carter feelings" - that sums up a lot. ;)

Where do you do the bulk of your fannish interaction? Is there a hotbed of awesome out there that someone might be missing out on? Any specific comms or tumblrs or rec sites or tags we should be following?

The usual places (ie: Twitter and Tumblr). I will defend Tubmlr and it's ridiculous tagging ways ... to a point.

Are you taking part in Yuletide or Festivids this year? Are there any other fantastic exchanges we should all know about?

Yuletide. It's not Christmas without Yuletide.

How did you hear about your very first one/from whom/whose lj flist were you on?

I just found my LJ post about dinner at the Oaks before Armageddon in 2008 with

china_shop. So I probably heard about it there? Or through them anyway.

Have you ever done a presentation at g/t? What was it? (Especially if it was in Year 1, 2, or 3, for which records are slightly murky.)

Best g/t memory ever (or that you can remember right this minute):

The drumming circle, and the 2 hour Dr Who Presentation do stand out. :p

Thoughts on how Fandom (capital F deliberate) has changed over the last decade:

I feel like it started off very separate, and LJ brought different fandoms all together in one place for a while (not exclusively obvs but a lot of it was there), and now it's sort of done .... something else I can't express very well at 12:10am. AO3 has been awesome, and Twitter is great and I will even defend Tumblr (although it isn't great for interaction with other people you don't already know, I agree). There's still a community there but it has changed.

Also, the increasing amount of openness about queerness has been really awesome to see, especially considering there were a few 'ew slash' years in there from certain part of fandom, and I feel like that's much more in the past, though I imagine sadly not entirely gone.

Also lol the fourth wall. I still have mixed feelings about that depending on what day you ask me and what fandom I'm in.

Thoughts on how fandom (your more personal experience of it) has changed over the last decade:

Wow, since reading West Wing fic individual archives/author sites and Harry Potter Yahoo Groups, it's moved on so much in terms of technology and how people interact.

To get touchy-feely for a second, in the 10+ years I've been in fandom, it's completely changed the way I read/watch things, and taught me to be more critical and aware of social issues and how they're reflected in the media we consume. It's also introduced me to a wider range of music, tv, movies and comics and I'm just really grateful for it. Sure, it's not all sunshine and rainbows, but it's brightened and brought joy into my life far, far more than it's taken away. You guys are all awesome. <333
