Exactly one month to go, which I was going to panic about, but apparently the record for lateness goes to 2017 where the big post flurry took place only a fortnight out. Well done, 2017 me!

1) Restating for the record, as announced on twitter and to the mailing list earlier in the year, this year's get/together will, of course, be the weekend of October 5 and 6, with Friday 4 and Monday 7 as always for those who can make it/stick around.

2) Another year, another new fannish platform that didn't really take off. No disrespect to pillowfort, but most of us didn't do more than name squat there. On the other hand, I quite like the mailing list, it's been easy for me to use, so once again I'll be sending out wakeup emails and critical reminders, while continuing to use this livejournal as an information repository/hub. The best way to get up to the minute updates is still, of course, the twitter account. Even if you don't use twitter actively, it's worth checking out the g/t feed for up the minute news.

3) Taking signups as top level comments to the registration post seemed to work last year, so we'll stick with that. As always, open ID or (pseudonymously) signed anonymous comments are fine.

4) Everyone seemed to enjoy late night Saturday, vidshows, pub quiz, and pizza, so unless I get feedback to the contrary in short order, assume we're sticking with that. The pizza delivery went almost perfectly last year, so orders will again be finalised and paid for together with your registration and subs.

5) Subs will almost certainly be the same as last year, ie $33. I'm just waiting on the official invoice.

Expect a bunch of informational posts over the next few days, but if you're an old hand you can also expect not much to have changed. :-)

Five weeks (okay, four and a half) to go, which puts me a full fortnight ahead of last year. *\o/*

1) I realise now that I tweeted out the confirmed dates for this year, congratulated myself on booking early, and then forgot to ever post them here. Apologies to anyone who's been waiting in anticipation. This year's get/together will, of course, be the weekend of October 6 and 7, with Friday 5 and Monday 8 as always for those who can make it.

2) This livejournal is going to stay the archival repository of all information posts. Everything is going to be mirrored at pillowfort if you've got one, and if it takes off as a fandom platform that might become the main hub next year. The best way to get up to the minute updates is of course the twitter feed. I'm going to send out a wakeup email once I've got all the ducks in a row, and will probably continue to do this for a while for people that have deleted or abandoned their ljs and don't get updates anymore. Feel free to forward this email to anyone you think might not have got it and would be interested.

3) Signups will be taken as top level comments to the registration post rather than as individual posts, as we did last year. Open ID or (pseudonymously) signed anonymous comments are fine.

4) We're sticking with the extended hours on Saturday, which seemed to work well last year. One obvious fine tune I thought of almost immediately during the chaos is that Hell orders for the pizza party will have to be finalised and paid for together with your registration and subs. Sorry if this kills spontaneity, but phoning in the order last year almost killed me. Also, [livejournal.com profile] china_shop will be running Pub Quiz this year, which will both be awesomely entertaining, and take some of the evening pressure off me. Huzzah.

5) Subs will be the same as last year, ie $33. I know that's a stupid sum, but it's a fine line between covering costs and not wanting to make a profit. If there is any change, I will be dumping it in the heating gold coin cup.

The rest of the posts you're champing at the bit for (and [livejournal.com profile] jocondite so charmingly asked for) will be going up over the course of the day, mirrored shortly thereafter, and tweeted out as and when.
[identity profile] arysteia.livejournal.com
Well, we're at three weeks out so I think this is officially the latest I've ever left this. Sorry, team! Otoh, I also kinda feel like we're such a well oiled machine by now that we'll get by. *crosses fingers and knocks on wood*

Anyway:

1) I know livejournal is less and less viable as a platform, but I neither want nor have time to think about it now. If you've deleted your journal or for any other reason can't use it, then please feel free to contact me directly by whatever means you prefer and I will make the magic happen. I'm going to direct message or email anyone who I'm not in regular contact with to make sure they're in the loop, and if you have friends who may fall into that category can you please do the same.

2) I'm going to be considerably streamlining signups for longtime attendees, as I feel like we're kinda reinventing the wheel these days. If you're brand new/have attended just once before I'd still like a wee bit more info, just so I can make sure I've got you covered for pub quiz/discussion topics/general icebreakers etc.

3) We've got extended hours this year, by popular request, so for the love of God, Montresor, please don't brick me up in a cellar of having to listen to myself talk forever. Volunteer whatever crazy ideas you may have for presentations, discussions, art/vid/son et lumiere shows, or make suggestions for anything you'd like to see some other poor sucker another talented comrade do. A post for this will be going up very shortly, but feel free to @ me on twitter or otherwise if preferred.

4) Subs will be the same as last year, ie $33. I know that is a stupid sum, but it's a fine line between covering costs and not wanting to make a profit. Hall hireage has gone up slightly, but I think we'll be fine. If there is any change, I will be dumping it in the heating gold coin cup.

5) Unless I hear back from anyone else (if you're the only one who's commented you may be the deciding vote!) then I am just going to make arbitrary decisions on restaurants for dinners. I will be making a food post in fairly short order, and there will still be some wiggle room, but not much, and not for long.

I think that's all for now, which almost certainly means I will think of something else as soon as I hit post.

Hi there, all, we’re at T minus three days, so let’s get this show on the road. I’ll keep updating this post until it’s perfect, and link all prior admin posts, but the only one that should come after it is the timetable so maybe bookmark these two and you’ll be good to go.

Timetable

The timetable post is here and includes the run down for Saturday and Sunday’s festivities, and also the cocktails, brunches, and dinners over the four day unofficial g/t long weekend, ie including Friday and Monday for those who are already/still in town. Obviously it goes without saying you don't have to come to everything, even if you are in town! Please make your own decisions as to how best to manage the weekend for maximum pleasure and comfort. If you've had a last minute fit of inspiration and want to get on the timetable, let me know asap!

The Hall

Things are being run slightly differently at the hall now that it is being administered by a trust instead of by the church. I’ll explain in more detail on Saturday but the big concern for me is that I paid a pretty hefty bond, so I’m trusting you all not to trash the place. I think the only practical difference is that we have to take all rubbish with us this time, so there’ll be bags for that; otherwise the usual rules about putting everything back as we found it apply. I’ve paid for slightly extended hours so we have more than enough time to cover that.

Subs

Almost every New Zealander has paid, so if you’re one of the two outstanding can you please either rectify that or have cash ready to go at the weekend. Aussies, cash as usual.

Alcohol

The hall is a strictly non-alcoholic space and always has been, but I actually signed a disclaimer to that effect this year, so even though it’s never come up before, I’m officially announcing it. Those who wish to drink at dinner are welcome to organise that for themselves. Cocktails on Friday night are a totally optional additional festivity and if you’d rather meet at the restaurant, please do so.

That’s all I can think of right this minute, but I’ve no doubt forgotten something urgent and will be back to fix it as soon as I hit post.

Right, so, hopefully at least some of you still have notifications turned on. Trying to get all these posts up and coded in between lj crashing, and firefox crashing, and my laptop crashing... The devil's work.

Anyway, if you missed any of these posts when they first went up, or sensibly ignored my placeholders while simultaneously sighing at the fact that I'd missed the very point of notifications... Check them out now.

Registration Form 2014

Three of you haven't registered! Go do that now! [livejournal.com profile] jocondite, [livejournal.com profile] deepbluemermaid, [livejournal.com profile] sethra2000 I'm looking at you.

Subscriptions

Go pay me! I did half the shopping this morning and will do the rest Thursday night.

Venue

Most of you know where to go. If you don't, google maps on your phone is probably better than this, but addresses and some aged maps are here.

Food and Related

Some thoughts about lunch options especially. Check it out so you know what to expect in advance.

Presentations, Primers, and Performances

It's not too late to add yourself. In fact, if you have something to contribute, you should really go do that. I'm going to start working on the timetable tonight/tomorrow.

Timetable Link Goes Here (but has not been pre-coded, so you'll get a new notification!)

Dear God, but it is three and a half weeks to D-Day. In some ways this is the least organised I have ever been. In other ways, we have been talking about g/t 10 for probably three months now on twitter and in person, and the vast majority of you have been a million times before and know how it all works, so… ;-p

Anyway, almost none of the links in this post are going to work yet, but they will over the next couple of days as I get everything coded up and posted. The Registration Form one totally will though, because the benefit of being ahead of the curve at work (for two whole days now, ye Gods!) is that I spent this afternoon doing it. \o/

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] china_shop for reminding me that time's a'ticking. There'll be more detailed updates shortly, but let's get this ball rolling at least. Go fill out a registration form!

I have to go confirm the venue booking tomorrow, but assume subs will be much the same as always, ie $30. We'll inevitably wind up at the same restaurants as always, aka the only places local that can/will tolerate our numbers and rowdiness.

If you still need to get in on the Brentwood booking then contact Dewey (see comments to previous post) and she *may* be able to squeeze you in. If not, feel free to ask for advice here and I can recommend some hostels.

There'll be a post very soon asking for presentations and ideas for panels. Watch this space.
[identity profile] arysteia.livejournal.com
Howdy all.

And holy hell, where did the time go? I'm sure it was just yesterday I was congratulating myself on being efficient and Getting Things Done.

Many thanks for your prompt payments. To the shops I go. [I'm pretty sure I have everyone now, bar six, seven counting me, people I know in RL, *g*. Yo, Miss I Love Pie!]

Attendance-wise, we're at 24 confirmed, our second greatest haul after the bonanza that was 2009. We welcome three shiny new people this year, [livejournal.com profile] ships_harry, [livejournal.com profile] gnine, and [livejournal.com profile] cyphomandra, so please make them feel at home. We also welcome home some old friends. \o/

[livejournal.com profile] dewey3067 has made her Swapmeet post as usual here. Please minimise stress and the chance of electrical failure (rickety, rickety) and use it.

Timetable, venue maps, etc follow hot on the heels of this post. Get back to slaving over a hot hard drive, presenters. *evil cackle* *runs away and cries over own*
[identity profile] arysteia.livejournal.com
Heya, me again.

These are a couple of the suggestions/requests we've received as feedback the last couple of years, along with niggles we've thought of ourselves. If you have anything to add, please comment here.

1) Can we move the lunch slots earlier?

We run a split lunch to accommodate the RPS/FPS divide, and the Classic Fandoms Episode Screening. But yes, point taken. I'll be looking at this, and the second slot will certainly not be as late as last year.

2) Can we do anything about noise from the kitchen?

China and I meant to close the galley last year and totally forgot. If we do so again this year, please somebody remind us, or be proactive, *g*.

3) Discussion Etiquette

Most people felt that the panels went well, and I personally thought everyone was great about taking their turn, but one or two people did find it difficult to be heard. I'll wear my teacher hat a bit more aggressively if necessary. Please nobody be offended, we seek the greatest possible good for the greatest possible number. :-) Also, I know it seems silly, but it works -- if I don't hear you, please raise a hand and wave to get my attention.

4) Can we post a hard copy of the timetable so everyone can keep track?

Yes. Easy as pie.

5) What about that pesky light/failure of curtaining?

I'll bring some drawing pins, but maybe locals could bring some dark sheets if ya got 'em?

6) Dear God Wellington is cold!

Yes, yes it is. Keep an eye on the forecast, but please do dress warmly, or at least in layers so you can react to surprises. I'm hoping for a glorious Can't Beat Wellington on a Good Day, but this weekend's been hideous, so... Bring a throw and your slippers if you want to, don't be proud.
[identity profile] arysteia.livejournal.com
Right, we're a week out, and this is the general housekeeping post. (Apologies for the spam today.)

1) Payments: A friendly reminder to get your subs in asap please. They technically close today, people, and I'd like to beat the GST rise, please. It's in all our coke guzzling, chip scoffing interests, *g*. Everyone who commented with a payment except one has come through, I've alerted that one individually. The one who didn't comment, but paid, I know who you are! Ditto the one who paid cash, and my houseguest. Many thanks to those who are ahead of the curve, much appreciated, and a poke with the pokey stick to the laggards. Go here for details if you still need the details.

2) Accommodation: Has everyone who isn't from Wellington sorted out where they're staying/who they're sharing a room with? Can a team leader from each group please let me know your details (lest we lose you to daylight saving/bus strikes/other and have to find you).

3) Arrivals: Can everyone let me know when their flights/trains/buses get into town. We may be able to organise car-pools, shared taxis etc, plus we don't want to miss you at lunch/dinner/dessert etc.

4) Any Other Business: If you have any last questions, chuck 'em in here.
[identity profile] arysteia.livejournal.com
Thanks to the increased numbers this year (which of course subsidises/reduces venue hire effectively), I am very pleased to announce that g/t has remained recession-proof. Subs are still the glorious price of twenty dollars only, which covers the venue, some goodie bags (ha ha, which will be a surprise to you all this year, but lol) and snacks and drinks for the weekend.

Because we are looking at bigger numbers, and because I have to pay for the venue in advance, and because China and I are not recession-proof, I will require payment in advance this year, rather than on the day. There are two options, either a) Paypal (which brings us full circle since I opened that account to pay China's and my subs to Sinpoz in the action that kickstarted this crazy whirligig of fun); or b) Direct Credit. My paypal account is, as always, arysteia@yahoo.com. If you need bank account details (not my mortgage account, so don't plan a quick getaway to Brazil) comment here and I will email you. If you could get on that asap please. Thank you, also in advance.

Some housekeeping still outstanding:

We're still missing some arrival times. Can you please comment at the arrivals post. ETA: all done now.

I assume everyone has organised their accommodation by now. If not, I refer you back to the accommodation post. My schoolmarmly listmaking compulsion would like to be able to leave messages etc if necessary, and/or make tentative car pooling arrangements. ETA: all done now.

I think that's it from me for now, but I will be spamming you a bit over the next few days. So sorry. ;-p

Registrations: We have 12 registrations so far. If you're coming and you haven't posted one yet (or if someone you know is coming and hasn't filled one out), please do so (or get them to) ASAP. The registration form is here.

Dishes roster: In the absence of a dishwasher, we'll be instigating a dishes roster. Just so you know. :-)

Access to house: There are road works happening in my street, so while vehicle access is possible between 9 and 5 on Friday, no parking's allowed. This doesn't apply to the weekend. Any time after 5pm Friday is fine! But just so you know, Friday's a bit complicated. Regrettable but unavoidable.

Hey everyone! So, okay, I currently have a cable modem, a desktop PC, and very little technological knowledge. However, I am planning for there to be wireless at my house for get/together '07!

So. Useful information you can give me:

1. Do you have a router you could/are willing to bring? (If not, I'm going to try to borrow/rent one.)

2. Are you bringing a wireless-enabled laptop? i.e. How many connections do I need to cater for? Please comment even if the answer is no, so I can get a full headcount. Thanks!

Eeeeeeee! We're at T minus one month and one day! Get your party shoes ready!

Yes ladies, the madness has started.

[livejournal.com profile] not_nele has arrived, and immediately been put to work.

Enter the complete batshit insanity of [livejournal.com profile] arysteia.

"Let's move this couch", quoth I.

"Absolutely," replied the unwitting victim. "It's the lightest couch in the world."

Which was fine. Until we hit the narrowest staircase in the world. With a 3/4 turn in it.

And got stuck.

It was like that scene in Friends where Ross was too cheap to get the new couch delivered and they all got stuck while he impotently shouted, "Pivot! Pivvv-ottttt!"

But with giggling instead of shouting. And then I added insult to injury by remembering that I had the balcony doors open and we could just have walked outside.

Doh!

So when we managed to untangle ourselves we did that. And then while I was laughing I let go of the couch too soon and it hit the wall. Which would have been fine with any of the five other couches I moved today (alone!), but no, it was the one with the wooden frame.

So it put a huge dent in the gib.

Nele goggled, but nothing fazed I went and got the plaster and fixed it.

"Do this a lot, do you?" she asked.

Um, no? I was doing DIY last weekend?

In better news, the groceries have been delivered (remember your $20 because Woolworths is now rich and I am now poor), and meals are in the oven. I may be mad as a brush, but I have moments of brilliance too.

Roll on!

Just thought I'd mention that I bought a couple of casks of wine -- one red, one white. If you want plonk but can't organise to bring your own, there should be plenty of the cheapish stuff. :)

Two sleeps to go!
