All together now, let's cross fingers this a) works, and b) doesn't flash up on the network in front of 2000 people.
My ten cents worth:
Because I always have something to say. And because we have new coins – Ockers are in for a treat – and tens are now a) the size of old twos, and b) copper.
I'd certainly envisaged a more leisurely start to Friday. Aussies will be tired after arriving midnight, and so will I given how much I've suffered this week (and how I have suffered), plus also this year I want to stay up with them, as opposed to last year when I had to go to bed because I was dead.
So yes, my vote/request/imperial decree is dvd watching, greasy goodness eating, possibly a glass or two of wine, etc, till other guests start trickling in.
I also don't think we need so much time for fandom intros given a) we mostly know each other, and b) the fandoms are more homogenous [the fandoms that ate fandom!]. Not that I'm vetoing it, or silencing anyone, just saying I don't think we'll suffer from compressing it so we can push back a few hours.
Plus also, because it's my place, we're not bounded by time limits, though we will have to be a *little* considerate of my household when they're trying to sleep.
Plus also, we have no track record of sticking to the timetable anyway, so noone need fear if they think something's missing. But it's good to have one. Many thanks to the organisateurs.
And re content:
Ideally, I'd like to see a couple of seminar type presentations, where someone gives an introduction to a topic of interest to them, tosses out a few ideas/theories, and then poses a few questions to the floor, which discusses and feeds back. In my mind this is slightly different from the looser discussion circles we've used in the past (and will still use here). I have prepared one myself (well sort of, I've *mentally* prepared it and just need to make the powerpoint slides) and would like to invite anyone else who has an idea to do something similar.
If you think you might like to (and you don't *need* powerpoint of course, you can use the white board or whatever) can you comment here and give me a heads up? My internet access will be tolerable today and tomorrow, though I won't have it tonight.
Final Thought
I really am hugely excited about this. It's sustaining me through some very trying times. I just went to a blogging seminar, and everyone goggled at the concept, let alone the educational applications. I was this far from flicking my lj up on the viewscreen and letting their heads explode.
I restrained myself.
Barely.
But roll on Friday.
