1) The Fannish Basics
Who are you and where can we find you (preferred name/user names across your preferred platforms/where you’re most active):
Tui in what we laughably call the real life. labellementeuse @ DW/LJ/AO3/Ravelry(!) /@tui_talk [there is an @labellementeuse but I don't use it currently]/birdhead @ tumblr. I'm on twitter 24/7 and check my DW flist every other day. I am no longer regularly checking my LJ flist.
Are you a reader, a writer, an artist, a vidder, a lurker, all of the above, or something else entirely:
Reader. And I do Yuletide.
Wax lyrical about your current fandoms and OTPs:
I'm kind of bitterly stuck in hockey fandom caring about stupid hockey players and hockey teams. My team is the Blackhawks and I guess I OTP Kane/Toews (and SAAD/LEDDY until Leddy gets traded and I fucking cry) but I'll pretty much read any slash ship in that fandom if it's even vaguely well-written and over 2000 words long. While I do that I'm also doing a lot of SGA re-reading and watching Teen Wolf. I am loving the Marvel movies but don't seem to be able to read that much in the fandom, dunno why.
Reminisce with one perfect crystal emo tear for the ship that sank or the fandom that finally faded away:
The other day I tried to read some Sam/Dean fic and I was like, seriously, I used to passionately ship brothers and believe they could actually have a happy ending? (Actually the second bit prob most unlikely for Sam/Dean). So I guess I am finally broken of Sam/Dean and Supernatural fandom (I did do a bit of a Castiel read.)
Any squicks or kinks (be clear which is which, *g*):
I was going to say I didn't expect to have any squicks that would show up at g/t but THEN LAST YEAR THERE WAS THAT ONE REALLY UPSETTING FANVID so: I would appreciate a bit of a warning for anything really gory that was going to happen in video. All kinks welcome except scat. Guys, randomly, I feel really sorry for scat fans because everyone's all the time "all kinks! except scat!" like I just feel that must be really difficult. okay I'll add bloodplay just so scat doesn't feel so alone. infectious bodily excreta, basically.
Fannish highlight of your year:
get/together obviously. This year, I chose three and a half days at g/t over an extra three days in the USA, so feel treasured, kids. I also LOVED Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Favourite new show/movie/comic/source text since last year:
Um I've been watching a lot of Teen Wolf
Favourite AO3/tumblr/twitter tag:
#scottish actors with little to no shame. I don't even have a particular fondness for Scottish actors with little to no shame but I consider this to be a perfectly-formed tumblr tag (it belongs to stickmarionette, who also owns "Will Graham helps himself!!!" and its perfectly pitched exclamation marks and really, I think we all basically need tag lessons from stick.) Murder-themed twitter tv hashtags are also really enjoyable, I just wish there was a way I could make them applicable to the Great British Bake Off.
Where do you do the bulk of your fannish interaction? Is there a hotbed of awesome out there that someone might be missing out on? Any specific comms or tumblrs or rec sites or tags we should be following?
Definitely Twitter. I'm not public right now but please add me and I will totally add you back!
Are you taking part in Yuletide or Festivids this year? Are there any other fantastic exchanges we should all know about?
When are Yuletide sign-ups again?
2) The G/T Advanced Section
How many g/t’s have you been to?
I have attended five consecutively, and 2014 will be my sixth :)
How did you hear about your very first one/from whom/whose lj flist were you on?
I was sort of trailing around in Due South fandom just as
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
Have you ever done a presentation at g/t? What was it? (Especially if it was in Year 1, 2, or 3, for which records are slightly murky.)
Yeah I did a terrible Stephanie Brown one in I-don't-remember-which-year OK it was 2011.
Best g/t memory ever (or that you can remember right this minute):
I can't come up with just one emotional one (although I do cherish the memories of horrifying waitstaff in the back of Olive every year; I miss you, shitty downmarket freezing cold and damp outdoor section) but I think my best panel ever was actually last year's one on the fannish history of the alpha/omega trope, which was fascinating and produced a really interesting discussion. Also slash pictionary rocks.
Thoughts on how Fandom (capital F deliberate) has changed over the last decade:
I'm tempted to describe it as kind of a cycle from the tail end of transient-ish media like newsgroups combined with personal websites and single-fandom archives -> multi-fannish archives like ffn.net -> sites suited to combine personal stuff and fandom stuff like Livejournal -> transient-ish media like twitter and tumblr combined with the AO3 but I think that's probably a bit pat. I feel that the AO3 has centralised fandom - that is, the bits of fandom I hang out in - while decentralising personal stuff.
Thoughts on how fandom (your more personal experience of it) has changed over the last decade:
Because of the decentralising of personal stuff, I no longer feel like any individual fandom is my "home" fannish community. Instead, I feel like my fannish home is, well, my get/together peeps, and fandoms are just places I visit for my slash fix. Some things about that are great - I love, love, love my people - but I don't like the way fandoms feel more easily transcended, I don't like the way the only real hubs of fannish community any more are anonmemes, and I feel less able to develop close internet friendships now. I have a few but I don't feel as close to them as I felt to some internet friends a few years back. It makes it a little harder to get buzzed about fannish stuff and into writing - not that I ever wrote that much in the first place, I guess. So, totally selfishly and personally, I guess that's how changes have affected me.
If you’re one of our Venerated Foremothers (ie have stories to tell that pre-date the ark, or at least the internet) please share:
I don't qualify at g/t, but I definitely enjoy back-in-the-day-ing about Harry Potter fandom to the young snips on tumblr.
Any other comments worthy of being preserved for posterity in this banner year:
I'm not good at posterity but I love us.
