Wax lyrical about your current fandoms and OTPs: Daredevil is great, it contains ACTUAL DECENT LAW and also heavy doses of "You idiot child, you have rage issues." FOGGY BEST! Matt/Foggy is my ship of choice. Or Foggy/Karen, Foggy/ANYONE.

Penny Dreadful, VANESSA UBER ALLES. Vanessa/Ethan 5EVA!!! I liked Dorian up until he dropped Angelique, Billie Piper as Brona/Lily is an amazing actress and I love the character, and everyone else in the show is awful. But since there is a fair chance they'll be murdered horribly, that's ok.

Reminisce with one perfect crystal emo tear for the ship that sank or the fandom that finally faded away: I... hockey rpf just spectacularly imploded in a burst of grossness and if you have any sense and don't want to spend an hour listening to me yell about privilege and heaps of triggery awfullness, do not ask me about it.

Any squicks or kinks (be clear which is which, *g*): I love the soulmates/red mark/names on wrist trope. Also pining.

Rape and gas-lighting are squicks.

Another squick is power-imbalance relationships--teacher/student etc. Oh, and fridging/women-bashing (ESPECIALLY in RPF where I WILL FUCKING THROW DOWN if you diss the SOs, I AM NOT HERE FOR MISOGYNY.)

Fannish highlight of your year: Pimping Hazel into Daredevil! (I AM IN THIS FANDOM AND I AM BRINGING YOU ALL DOWN WITH ME)

Favourite new show/movie/comic/source text since last year: Daredevil.
Also Sense8, Penny Dreadful (GOTHIC VICTORIAN MELODRAMA), Hannibal, and some weird Japanese anime which I'll talk about if you ask me about it!

I have had an intolerance of lactose which has meant avoiding dairy. I'm a lot better now, but I still may pass on some food if my stomach's threatening a revolt.

OH MY GOD.

So. There is a japanese game called Karuta. It's... ok, so it's a memory and matching game based on 100 poems from heian era Japan. The reader reads out the first line/s of the poem, the competitors have to touch the last line of the poem. It's very culturally worthy and educational and p. much everyone regards it as being as dull as ditchwater.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwjRb-9dsD0 this is a competitive match (actually for the top rank for women) complete with feints and a lot of psyching out. It's pretty awesome.

There is an anime about this. It is a SPORTS anime.

... yeah.

The thing is, it really works! Karuta doesn't rely on strength, only on speed, hearing and memory. The teams are mixed.

Chihayafuru (the anime) is into its third season. It mostly concentrates on the psychological aspects of the team, and individual character motivations.

Chihaya is the main character. She's gorgeous--her sister is a model and Chihaya is gorgeous, but she's completely focused on karuta and so much of a dork that she's not popular because of it. There's a love triangle but considerably less fanservice than usual (I'm up to episode 10 and I haven't seen any yet)

Oooh amazing! I guess after Hikaru no Go I really shouldn't be surprised at what could be made into a sports anime. I love that it's a shoujo title though. :D
