Vid Show -- Call for Vids
Sep. 8th, 2008 02:36 pmHello dear ones,
This is a call a) to attendees, but also b) to those who can't come but would like to have their names mentioned vicariously (and a tear shed) all the same.
I would like recommendations (and links!) to fanvids for the vid show.
Criteria for 2008:
1) Innovation -- while there's always room for old favourites, I largely *have* most old favourites. Not least the archival disks from g/t's past (thanks
erilyn), but also a substantial collection of my own. I'd really like recs that most of us *haven't* seen a hundred times. That doesn't mean it has to be a new fandom, but a new vid in an old fandom would be preferable to a golden oldie.
2) Format -- please if at all possible avi files are best and easiest. Another plus for newer vids is the death of ram, wmv etc. Yay!But mov still makes my laptop sad. Apparently my new laptop not so much.
3) Fandom -- obviously pimp your own fandom, but if there's anything cool from elsewhere send that too. Multi-fandom vids are always good. I'd like more range, with an emphasis on individual quality rather than the complete oeuvre of one artiste.
4) Content -- slash, gen, humour, anything goes. Got porn cut in? So be it. We're all adults. Though I will warn for any delicate flowers. Less is more, and epic eight minute vids tend to lose people.
Please link me in a comment so I can download the files and assemble all in advance. If there's anything that's *not* generally available on the net that you're in a position to upload somewhere for me, that'd be awesome.

Date: 2008-09-08 02:51 am (UTC)As far as I'm concerned, the rule is the same as for a book/movie that has its rating changed/is withdrawn from publication. The original copies don't get recalled. That said, my *etiquette* is that you don't hand it round, so maybe link me to it privately rather than publicly (a breach for sure), and I'll show it but not disseminate it? How's that for a compromise? Especially if it's THAT good, and why haven't I seen it?

Date: 2008-09-08 02:57 am (UTC)Other people may disagree, or maybe it wasn't recced widely because of the porn?
I'll upload it later after I get home from the appointment that I am now late for. :-)

The more you described it, the more I recognised it. All good then.

Date: 2008-09-08 04:10 am (UTC)It is a very good vid, is it not? It helps that that is one of my favourite songs in the entire world.

Date: 2008-09-08 04:16 am (UTC)I don't think I actually *knew* the song before... One of the things I love about great vids is that I discover new music too.

Date: 2008-09-08 06:30 am (UTC)Are Star Wars vids okay? I've got one that I really love, but it's wmv format - I'll convert it to avi and upload it if the fandom's not too old skool. *g*
Also: All the Small Things (http://tds-smallthings.angelfire.com/), an adorable Daily Show vid. Unfortunately it's wmv, so let me know if you need help converting to avi.

Date: 2008-09-08 06:53 am (UTC)2) Of course they are. Paradoxically vids from *old* fandoms are likely to be "new" to most of us too.
3) If you can convert them easily it would be one less chore for me... *bats eyelashes*

Date: 2008-09-08 09:07 am (UTC)A touching and lovely Torchwood vid (http://andrastewhite.livejournal.com/421090.html) - beware s2 spoilers.
I uploaded Moons Of Jupiter (http://rapidshare.com/files/143553165/DW_-_Moons_of_Jupiter__Ten_.avi), and All the Small Things (http://rapidshare.com/files/143558312/TDS_allthesmallthings.wmv.AVI), and that Star Wars vid (http://rapidshare.com/files/143564470/Star_Wars_-_Father_Figure.wmv.AVI).
Okay, I'll stop now. :D

Well. If anything else that *must* be seen occurs to you, do let me know. :-D

Date: 2008-09-08 06:25 am (UTC)I'm not sure there've been a lot of new DS vids lately, so I might have to agitate for a waiver of the "innovation" clause. Can I? Just for one or two?
no subject
Date: 2008-09-08 09:47 am (UTC)I guess under "Innovation" for old fandoms maybe I mean: Not those same ones that are on every g/t disk since time began! Seriously.

Date: 2008-09-08 07:36 pm (UTC)Pros, of course
Date: 2008-09-08 01:44 pm (UTC)Also,
Another one I'm thinking of was a Sweet Charity offering by Ancastar, very sweet & slashy - I could get a copy from the winning bidder.
And Crimson37's 30 year vid also very cool.
