And here's one I prepared earlier...
Sep. 26th, 2008 05:28 pmPreferred first name: Victoria
My primary fandom: Doctor Who is slugging it out with Supernatural
My secondary fandom: Stargate: Atlantis has dropped back (to the point where I just looked confused when
china_shop apologised for my bereavement). And crazily, Smallville is making a very strong, very fast comeback. Again. How 'bout that???
Other fandoms: The Professionals. Torchwood.
OTP forever: Lex/Clark. Doctor/Master. Sam/Dean.
OTP sometimes: Bodie/Doyle. Sheppard/McKay. Jack/Ianto.
My definition of slash is: Two hot guys doing hot things to each other. What's funny to me is that sometimes they're *not* objectively hot until that wee / appears, and then poof! Magic. Suddenly they are. The mega hotness of one converts the other in my eyes. And the power of their affection does the rest. [I'm fully aware I've left femslash out. It's not an accident. I've never read it, never thought about it. Interestingly (to me anyway), that's not a sexual preference so much as a commentary on the dearth of good (or any!) female characters in shows I watch. Because I *do* read gender swap femslash for my OTPs, and that's just silly.]
I like slash because: It makes bad shows better and good shows awesome. No seriously. Good fanfic anyway distils and crystallises what you love about a show, filling in gaps and explaining glitches. Slash just goes one better by focusing on the relationships you love, the character dynamics you enjoy... Oh, and the hot. I also like the emotional content. It's my favourite driver in a show anyway, more so than the action, so a fic that's heavily based around that is win win for me.
I discovered slash by: Print zine belonging to older sister at friend's house. Mention in Complete History of Trek (very negative of course!). Link on fan site for Robin of Sherwood. Game over.
My bullet proof kink: Dominant personality/control freak bottoming.
My major league squick: The Healing Power of the Cock. Damn you! It does not fix rape trauma *or* madness!!! Or evil, come to that. Though sometimes I let that one go, *g*.
My guilty pleasure: Mpreg. Yes. I know. Put down those vegetables. I justify myself to noone.
I first found out about (my first) g/t from/by: Bwahahaha.
china_shop and I invented it, yo. But I *can* tell an origin story. I went to a barbecue at china's. She said casually, "Oh hey, there's a slash con in Sydney. We should go." I don't think she was particularly serious. "We should totally go," I replied. I don't think *I* was particularly serious. "Okay," she countered. "Okay," I agreed. And suddenly we *were* serious. And then I was *terrified* on the plane. And we agreed that she'd be the goofy one and I'd be the cool one. But then everyone we met was awesome. And I was cool for about an hour till I lost all dignity shrieking "Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!1!" in the auction for an original Theban Band manip of Clark and Lex. Meh. The goofy have more fun. And we liked the Tight Five (aka the EHoF) so much we told them to come to NZ and we'd do it all again. And they did. And we did. And thus g/t was born.

Date: 2008-09-26 05:55 am (UTC)I hear you on that. We were on a train heading in to Sydney when I got texted with the news and Bryonny started with "oh I'm so sorry!" and I was still stuck on "hooray bandom boys!" and couldn't really take it in at the time.
Also, ooh, I like your definition, and I agree strongly about how sometimes it's very much the slash which MAKES them attractive to me, that is such an excellent point. *ponders some more on this*
Your origin story is most excellent, though. *awws at you both*

Date: 2008-09-26 06:23 am (UTC)As for Spn... Which she also pimped, for the force is strong with her, and her toasters are many... I thought Jared Padalecki looked like a monkey. Which I stand by. And even Jensen Ackles was offensive to my eye for his time on SV. Which clearly was a dreadful, terrible mistake. But now... Phwoar...

Date: 2008-09-26 07:53 am (UTC)And... HEEE. Weren't you still bravely resisting SPN last time we had G/T? Mighty, falling, etc. *giggle* Also, this more properly belongs in your post, but while I think of it: how many SV renaissances does this make, now? Oh Smallville. *so amused*

Date: 2008-09-26 08:15 am (UTC)As for SV... All I can really say at this point is, "Damn you Michael Rosenbaum!!! How dare you make Lex Luthor so damn compelling? Still so damn compelling, even after all these years, all his evol, and after the show began truly to suck."
I think this is... Hmmm... Renaissance 3? But it's the biggest and mightiest. I stopped reading at the beginning of 2006, I remember because I was marking Level 3 NCEA and didn't have time, and that broke the cycle. Fini. And I had a weak renaissance at g/t that year. But it didn't really linger. And I felt sufficiently divorced not to list it as a fandom for g/t 2007, but I regretted that actually during g/t... And

Date: 2008-09-26 08:17 am (UTC)And AHAHAHAAAA. I mean. No, really, that's all I have. AAAAAAAHAHAHAAAA. Wasn't it 2006 though where we ended up watching like six episodes of it or something? This is still the only SV I have ever seen! One gets such an interesting viewpoint on a show when you only ever see it in such situations. *giggle* And, aww, and -- okay, no, I am right back to AHAHAHAAAAAAA.

Date: 2008-09-26 08:28 am (UTC)Yeah but no. Totally 2006. Renaissance 1. I know I called it "weak", but that was for a value of weak that means I fell back in love with the show but didn't follow through with getting back into writing. But I won two very shiny toasters of my own by pimping

Date: 2008-09-26 08:32 am (UTC)*laughs and laughs and laughs* And hooray toasters! I think the only toasters I ever win are for dragging Kat into new fandoms kicking and screaming, but that's kind of inevitable, really, and possibly doesn't count.

Date: 2008-09-26 07:08 pm (UTC)I mean... That was *my* name for you, before I discovered you already a name. It was big in NZ at the time, obviously for its rugby connotations, but also it'd been given to a particular group of politicians. I transferred it to the five who hung out with China and I the whole sinpoz weekend. You, Alasen, Sinden, Hnix and Nirvana. All of whom I miss bitterly. :-(
*hugs*
