[personal profile] china_shop posting in [community profile] get_together

Preferred first name: China (or my RL name if you know it).

I have a different handle at DW/AO3: Nope, I'm [livejournal.com profile] china_shop everywhere.

Reader/Writer/Vidder/All of the Above: Writer, vidder, recapper, comm mod, reader, vid watcher, iconner, dilettante. In that order.

My current primary fandom: White Collar (3rd year and counting).

My current secondary fandom(s): Well, technically I'd say Smash, Eureka and vidding, but Smash and Eureka are more like tertiary or quaternary fandoms. Speaking of which, I also dabbled in reading Dresden Files and The Losers during the WC hiatus, but generally, I'm all about the fandomonogamy. Other shows I currently watch (for some value of "currently") include Justified, Parks & Recreation, The Good Wife, Weeds, In Plain Sight, Archer, M*A*S*H, Deadwood, Outrageous Fortune, and Gilmore Girls. And I've just ordered Royal Pains s1. And am tentatively discussing trying SPN.

Fandom(s) I’ve broken up with: If we're talking fandoms, it's still just Due South. If we're talking shows, I've stopped watching Fringe and Sherlock, and I tried BSG and couldn't get into it.

Fandom(s) I just can’t quit: n/a

OTP forever/sometimes/OT3: I have conflicting ones! Neal/Peter, Neal/Peter/Elizabeth, Peter/Elizabeth, Neal/Clinton, Tom/Sam (Smash), Jack/Henry (Eureka), Van/Munter (Outrageous Fortune), Leslie/Ben (P&R), Dresden/Marcone (DF), Cougar/Jensen (Losers), Aurelio Zen/suits, Mary Shannon/snark.

My bullet proof kink: Mutual liking and respect, humour, snark, emotional connection, selflessness without martyrdom, not too much angst.

My major league squick: Noncon, dubcon, power differentials (especially when eroticised), White Collar actor/behind the scenes stuff (I am clinging to my suspension of disbelief by the very tips of my very short fingernails as it is), OOC kink!fic.

My guilty pleasure: I'd rather be writing than reading. Does that count? I have less shame than I used to.

My comment on slash is: I'm tired of it being considered subversive or dorky or quaint when it's often a valid reading of the text. So there. :-P

My comment on fandom more generally is: I am refusing to join the fannish migration to other platforms because of the timesuck and the spoilers, but mostly I'm pretty happy playing in my own sandpit anyway. That said, if I didn't have fandom at all, I would be sooooo sad and lonely right now.

Coke/Coke Zero/Diet Coke/Sprite/Juice: n/a

Tea/Coffee: n/a (Will bring own hot drink stuff, due to being stupidly high maintenance.)

Blue Top/Calci-Trim Milk: n/a

I would prefer junk food/I would prefer crudites: carrot and celery sticks (am happy to help chop) and salt & vinegar chippies.

I will likely come for dinner Friday: Yep.

I will likely come for dinner Saturday: Yep.

I will likely come for dinner Sunday: Yep.

I always love your form! And I think this is the most whorish you've ever been.

You're damn right you're helping me chop the veges. ;-p ;-p ;-p

And yes, I'll bring the SPN tomorrow. I can't wait to hear your thoughts, lol.

It will blow my *mind* if you get into SPN.

I kind of hope it takes off for you since in some ways it seems like a good fit for you!

went to say something, realised it was a spoiler. Okay, THAT could be a problem :P

I used to watch it with the lights on but I am a huuuuuuuge chickenshit, so.

Well, Buffy and Angel both scared me, so. (Seriously, giant wuss.)

I'm not a horror fan, and don't do incest pairings, but I watched 5 seasons of SPN :)

Hmmm, I would lump it into the problem of seeing anything, fannish or not, that has been hyped up, so there are expectations. And it can be a problem, I was letdown by Inception because I spent the entire movie waiting for interaction between Arthur and Eames (because I knew there was a large fannish response and people were actively slashing them) and got very little.

I was also underwhelmed by Juno, because I thought it was a good film, but not OMGAMAZING like the hype said. I think the hype interfered a bit with my enjoyment of Heath Ledger's Joker the first time I saw The Dark Knight.

It's one of my main reasons for trying to be spoiler-free for stuff I care about. If I have no expectations, its harder to be let down.

I was absolutely terrified (though putting on a brave face) that the Avengers couldn't possibly live up to my expectations, which then had the boomerang effect of making me love it even more when it did. But yeah, usually my mantra is: Fear the worst, Hope for the best. It paid off in spades for XM:FC.

Some things grab us quick, some can be a slow burn (it took me a fair bit of s1 of SGA before I was really into McKay/Sheppard, I was a bit "why is everyone so into these two?" for a while when watching).

And it's amazing how much our perception changes once we do fall in fannish love - I've been watching Teen Wolf for less than two months, and while the show has flaws (lol understatement), I'm now filled with SO MANY FEELINGS about the characters.
