... ooh, alliteration. :-D

Howdy one and all.

Here follows the basic timetable for this year's g/t. It's pretty full, which means we're going to actually have to make more effort to *follow* it than we have in past years...

So on that note, I want to make a couple of comments. This year's g/t is our biggest yet, with twenty-seven registered participants. That's fantastic, and I'm really excited about it, but it does make logistics slightly more difficult. We're in the middle ground between a slumber party (and believe me, I miss SLM more than anyone) and a con. China and I work incredibly hard to make this happen, and I for one have spent hours on this timetable. Above all what we need is co-operation and compromise.

We are, always have been, and always shall be, pan-fandom. Kink meme rules apply, ie no judging other people's kinks. You can't hit BACK, unfortunately, but you can go for a walk, or retreat to the readers' corner, or go make yourself a cup of tea. That said:

We do have some biases, and always have had, eg:

The Tyranny of Those with Loud Voices

Self explanatory. We'll do the very best we can to mod the panels appropriately so that everyone can be heard. With regard to presentations, though, the simple fact is: those who volunteer get to do them. The only known cure is to volunteer yourself!

The Fandom that Ate Fandom

Just as lj is occasionally overrun by orcs from a fandom you cannot see the attraction in, so too g/t is sometimes swamped by a fandom du jour. Often not anyone's primary fandom, but everyone's secondary, kinda like STV voting. Wai halo thar, Doctor Who 2008. I think we've got this one licked this year, because our spread is massive.

Shiny and New Trumps Cherished and Old aka Sluts have More Fun than the Faithful

Pretty self explanatory. Pimps and presentations are 9/10 times for new obsessions, and if you can juggle five fandoms at once you'll obviously be readier to squee than the monogamous. We've taken active steps to counter this, at least in small part, this year, and we'll be screening an episode each day from the glorious old skool.

Lastly, we do have the Obligatory Squick Warnings (taken from your registration forms):

Incest is/is not Best

Some love it, some hate it. End of Story. No one's pimping it, and no one gets to criticise it. Obviously you can exercise your free will and your freedom of speech anywhere you like, and I would actively anticipate some conversations, and willingly participate in them. They won't be on the main floor though (except possibly during the Kink Meme panel, for which there will be warnings as appropriate). My Supernatural reel is for the show, not the pairing.

Real People can Dislike Real Person Fic

Good old Spn, where RPF is the morally preferable choice, *g*. Still, the fact is, RPF remains a squick for many people, including people registered for g/t. It gets a slot this year because it's very popular, and some elements of democracy apply. What I've done, and I hope you'll agree, is seek the greatest possible happiness for the greatest number of people. To that end, the RPF presentations are scheduled against lunchbreaks, and additional lunchbreaks against the ep watches. Those who wish to can thus absent themselves while the RPF crowd have the main floor. In neither case is there an obligation to vanish for your break -- you can grab food and come straight back and see everything if you want! The point is to have choice.

Without further ado then:

That looks fantastic! You guys rock for putting so much work into organising everything and trying to keep everyone onside. :D

What do you mean we're a gay pastiche of Superman/Batman???
<3 the Authority. Although I did love Garth Ennis' response when asked what he thought of people calling Midnighter the gay Batman ("I thought Batman was the gay Batman"). *g*

So is Midnighter the less well adjusted Batman? Oh, wait. ;-p
*snickers* Through the process of preparing my presentation, I've had to stop far too many times just to go 'oh, Bruce'. Usually because he's doing something insane, but occasionally it's been 'how are you so awesome'/'how are you such a woobie'. :D

Supes is my favourite (was just reading Greg Rucka's run last night and fighting the urge to write him fan letters <3), but the Batfamily are hard to resist. *g* Bruce is...I think the closest I can get to it is that he's lost in (prehistoric) time (kind of like Steve Rodgers, come to think of it, heh). They'll probably bring him back in time for the next Nolan Batman movie, but in the meantime I'm surprised to find myself really enjoying all the new Batfamily comics so far.

Don't worry, Bruce! Tim is out there looking for a way to get you back! And given that it's Tim, you know he'll stop at nothing.

Cap is love and happiness and all great things. Scary at first glance (for which I blame both the uniform and stupid Ultimates-verse) though. :D

though I find it a bit sad that Dick and Tim have to fall out to bring Damian into the fold
This! It may be the Dick/Tim shipper in me speaking, but I keep thinking they'll fix their relationship sooner or later - almost a decade of stalking has to count for something. :D

Also, Robin-ate is an excellent word. OMG so excited for next week!

Bravo! And fortunately Fast and Furious: The Twenty Minute Edition doesn't need to much explanation, so I don't have to be fully awake. And you can make sure I'm there on time :D

in neither case is there an obligation to vanish for your break -- you can grab food and come straight back and see everything if you want!

Hurrah! I was about to ask if this was an option before I noticed this bit :)

For the non-RPS inclined, my American Idol intro (while it is about a real person fandom), is not RPS-focused. Lots of music, great to watch while eating! /shameless self-promotion

At some point we should talk about what these panels are going to be. Or not. Making stuff up on the fly is how I got through a lot of school.

PS - Do you not count the Animated Series as a separate series to Original Trek? It's something I've wondered about before, whether it should be or not. Or are you not counting Enterprise? I'm sure there are quite a few people who don't!

I'm thinking of throwing 5 minutes of NCIS: Los Angeles onto the end of Fast and Furious, because a) I already have an OTP after 2 crossover NCIS eps and 1 ep of the actual show, and b) they are giving Chris O'Donnell's character the MOST RIDICULOUSLY WOOBIE-TASTIC BACKSTORY I'VE EVER SEEN. It had my sister and I in helpless laughter, but I can't wait for the epic badfic it could lead to.

And yay for Lewis Collin's RoS episode! I've heard legendary things about his performance but despite being old enough to have watched RoS on broadcast telly, I somehow missed this ep.

That sounds totally fine to me! I am in the midst of confirming our rental car stuff (no, B, we do NOT want to drop it back in Akl. Oops.) but I will liase with you guys later in the week for directions/timings/etc. Also this week is likely to be hell at work so I suspect I will be unspeakable until I have had some coffee, fair warning. :D

Yes exactly! And, hee, possibly! You did label is SGA3 last year or something along those lines, so. It seems appropriate to switch it up. :D ...also I admitted a couple hours ago that I am already looking forward to my curry on Friday night omg. YELLOW CURRYYYYY.
