Hi everyone.

I was waiting for Dewey to make this post, but in the meantime I've noticed a fair amount of double-up chatter in other places, so apologies for stepping on your toes, hon.

Dewey, who is the hotel goddess, has unfortunately confirmed that the Brentwood Hotel and 747 Motel in Kilbirnie are both full for the weekend of get/together. God knows what's going on. I understand she's been looking into other options, so can everyone who's coming in from elsewhere in NZ (Aussies not included) please track comments to this post and either confirm you've made your own arrangements, or liaise with potential roommates here. I'll keep editing in updates as they arrive, but the comment threads will have the most up to date information in the first instance.

Sorry – meant to post today but the day got hijacked… (arysteia, could you edit the factual part of this into the main post?)

As you say, Kilbirnie hotels are overbooked- lifeguard thing going on and it has affected bookings in town as well. Everything reasonable or for groups is booked out. (I did all this a month ago, just kept hoping things would open up before I posted but no luck)


I was able to book YHA as our best (almost only) option - it is well rated and, while a hostel, I was able to get twin and double rooms (triples and quads weren’t available). Shared bathrooms but they are women only bathrooms.

sleep 2/room: 2 rooms with twin beds at $77 so $38.50 each for the three nights. I also booked. 2 rooms with a double bed as that’s all they had left (They were really tight on rooms.) So those people would have to share a bed and they are slightly more for the trouble at $83 so $41.50/each. If you don't mind the price and want a double-bed room on your own there are several left at this point. Let me know and I’ll add to the booking.

I will keep checking if they have cancellations that can be shifted to twin or triple rooms. I think the only real problem is likely to be Saturday night.

So figure approx. $40/night unless you’d like a room to yourself and then it is $83/night.

No airport shuttle. But if people post arrival times below then we can try to share paid shuttles from airport as that is cheaper.

edited to add: Okay - I was able to change to all twin rooms for Friday and Sunday but we still have only 2 twin rooms Saturday with rest doubles. I'll keep checking - but so far only Saturday night will be extra friendly for some!

Okay, update: spoken to team Auckland, and if we're not overfilled for room:people ratio, the three of us (stick, blade, me) would like to be in on rooms Friday and Saturday nights. Does that work? We can split a room between three of us preferably, but let us know if that'll make numbers tricky.

I'm not sure when either Blade or Stick get in, unfortunately -- earlier than me, though; I couldn't get a flight until 9pm so I won't be in till around half ten. :( So I will see everyone who's awake AFTER Olive, unfortunately.

I think it is all sorted - anyone else will have to make their own arrangements as I'm closing this of!. I've got a triple room for you three on Friday and then Saturday two of you get to share a double bed room and the third person gets to room with yet to be decided but probably Mab, me, or Jasmine in a twin bed room. I'm coming down from Auckland Friday morning VERY early, flight arrives at 7am, I think, although willing to wait around the airport until others are there to share a shuttle thingy.

I'll be in for three nights please! If we all get to know each other on Friday night, Saturday night sharing will be easier! ;-P I'm not too enormous (well, if you don't count being tallish!) so can probably share a bed if needed.

The only other person I know for sure is cross_stitchery, but I;m not sure what she's planning. I'm trying to talk alicambs into coming, so I'll let her know about the acomm.

Yay! - okay noted for all three nights. I see no conflict with putting you together with haldoor. I'm hoping you're friendly enough to share a double bed on Saturday as that's all that's still available, but Friday and Sunday will be twin beds.
