Current favourite fandom: I'm still kind of in CQL/Untamed RPF and am slowly dipping my toes into other Chinese fandoms

Current OTP (or OT3 etc): I'm a chronic multishipper and at the moment that's manifesting in being really into a bunch of different pairings for my two favourite women from Sisters Who Make Waves (aka Langjie) s3, Liu Lian and Yu Wenwen.

Are you having a Renaissance (tm) this year (or every year!): does Fire Emblem count? I need to pick the new game back up but it certainly reminded me of all my feelings, especially for my favourite charming schemer Claude von Riegan.

A lot of the time what makes me want fic isn't that my pairing don't get together in canon. (In fact I mostly ship non-canon pairings.) Fic is necessary to me because there's something about canon that I want more of, or I want to fix, or to explore, or to see a different angle on. That's usually a plot thing. Sometimes it's a relationship thing but it's very seldom a ship thing.

I agree with the comments others have made about The Untamed being a good mid-point in terms of providing a satisfying arc but also leaving a lot of room for imagination and work.

Lastly, in terms of queer representation, it's still overwhelmingly rare in major genre media properties (in the West or anywhere else) to center a queer couple. So for people like me who like to slash the main character, we'll have lots of room to play for a while yet.

Edit: came back to add my thoughts on the puritanism thing. My experience with this in recent times has unfortunately not been confined to young people who don't know better - if I had to generalise I'd say it's people who are newer to fandom and for some reason have brought a 50s mindset to relationships with them, heteronormativity, fetishizing virginity and all.
