i don't know if the organisers have started looking for venues, but would it be feasible to look for a place that has space for the out of towners to bunk down for the weekend, rather than fork out for hotel rooms? preferably somewhere that supplies mattresses :)

Hee! That's what I was thinking. I'm not sure how a marae would feel about loud and occasionally frequently perverse discussions about slash, though...

I know! It could be awkward.... Perhaps a recreation centre or something like that? I know that when I was in Wellington, years and years ago, for a national week of student action, that we all stayed in a community hall up in Brooklands somewhere - at least, I think it was in Brooklands. Deinitely a community hall, though

A lot of the community halls are used for churches on Sunday morning, so it can be hard to find one we can book out for the whole weekend. I'll talk to arysteia and see what we can come up with, though. :-)

Hah, cool, I never had slumber parties as a kid, let alone slashy ones. I second this idea, as it's justa few weeks before the big US trip and I neeeeeed to save the dosh.

One of my first suggestions was the Rongotai marae, as it happens. China raised her concerns then. We're looking into all options. None of us are exactly rolling in it this year. :-)
