Dates for 2012/Comics Event/Twitter Feed

Hi everyone. Can you believe it's that time of year again?

The dates for get/together this year will be Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th October. If you're in a position to take Friday 5th and/or Monday 8th off work, then there'll be the usual Slackers' Lunch and Wind Down type activities, but I'm also exploring having some more structured/focused events too.

Given my current proclivities (and the fact that this is the best year ever for comics movies) I'm looking at hosting a Comics event at my place, for example, probably Friday afternoon and into the evening, before FGF. So if you're interested in that, and can swing it, let me know. Also, as you do figure out when you might be arriving, if you could comment here that'd be great, so we can plan for dinner and any other activities that might be mooted.

Also, naturally, start thinking about any new/old fandoms/pairings you might like to pimp, and any topics for discussion, whether to lead or just throw out for one of the mods to run. I know meelie is looking at doing Teen Wolf this year, so get in early and reserve yours. \o/

Lastly, there is now a twitter account for g/t; it's @get__together (with the two underscores like the comm). I won't be spamming it, but any brief updates and random thoughts will likely go live there first. ETA: Thanks to china_shop there is also an LJ/RSS feed at: gettogethertwit.

Hooray, get/together! :DDD I'm flying in on Friday evening, and don't get in till 10pm so I'm pretty much not going to be seeing people till Saturday morning. :/ I don't have flights home yet, but unless I can pick up some extra days at work I'll be going home late Sunday evening. But I am excited to see everyone!

Well. Where to start...

First off, let me say, "Have at!" We can be pretty raucous in the sense of having a lot to say and loving to catch up, but we're all pretty nice so there's no need to be shy.

Have a look at the timetable tag on the comm, if you want to see what we've done in past years: http://get--together.livejournal.com/tag/timetables -- that should give you an idea of the sort of thing we get up to.

If that sounds like fun (it is, I promise!) then come along. Basically at some point nearer the time I will ask for subs, which are usually about $30 and need to be direct credited to me, and at that point you can fill out a registration form, which is basically just a gtky so we know what fandoms you're in, what snacks you like, and other matters of grave importance.

Then decide when you want to come down to Wellington and how -- that's up to you -- and what you need in the way of accommodation. dewey3067 usually makes a group booking at a hotel across the road from the venue, so you'd be welcome to get in on that if it suits, or you can make your own arrangements.

You can then be either a presenter or an observer, as active or as passive as you choose. There are people who've come for eight years and never presented anything, and others who presented in their first year, aged seventeen. Whatever your comfort level is.

I'm flying in on Friday night and will probably have to leave on Sunday night (new job, and I'm taking a lot of leave already in September for graduation). Still, ridiculously excited to see you guys.

In terms of pimping, I've actually got nothing this year. (For once! I've stuck to the same couple of fandoms for a year! *g*) Might whip up something short on Ladies Who Play Football, but I'm still considering that.

Hi. Sorry for the late reply, I wasn't sure who exactly submitted it for inclusion (spoiler: it wasn't me).

Get/Together usually consists of: games like Slash Pictionary (pretty much what it sounds like, with outrageously porny clues) or Slash Consequences or once Crude-o (imagine Cluedo but with sexing instead of killing), various presentations on fandoms du jour or of the past (put together by individual attendees), sometimes meta presentations on fandom issues of interest, fandom primers (eg all you need to know about comics if you've only seen the movie), moderated discussions on fan fiction and/or fandom themes and/or meta issues, a vid show (differently themed each year), the last couple of years we've had a tribute to characters of colour or awesome female characters, and of course lots of eating and drinking and laughing and catching up with friends. Non-presenting attendees often bring their knitting or similar, *g*. It's grown from a slumber party held at my house to a more formally scheduled weekend programme at a hired venue, but it's still pretty relaxed. This will be the eighth year it's held.

I'd rather not say where exactly it takes place, but Wellington's not big so it's not an issue in terms of where to go.

Hellooo. I'm Rhu, I've been five minutes in fandom and have basically nothing to my name, but I was hoping to come along and play also. My tickets are booked for the Friday (I get in Friday afternoon, so an evening thing would be groovy), and I leave Monday, but I'm staying with family so possibly won't attend both sandwich days.

I'm very content to sit back and watch stuff, but if there's anyone already planning to do a Sherlock thing and needs a hand I'd be happy to help.

My first impulse is to say: maybe we can put it in one of the lunchtime/RPS slots, with warnings, such that people can come and go as they please? What do you think? We could rename the slot "Warnings Attached" (which has the added bonus of partially de-stigmatising RPS).
